Saturday, November 2, 9 am: Give Back Day, Honeysuckle Blitz, Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve, Greene County, Ohio
Join the Cincinnati Wild Flower Preservation Society, state botanist, Rick Gardner, and the Division of Natural Areas and Preserves (DNAP) employees and supporters in an effort to help remove the alien, invasive, bush honeysuckle from Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve.
Your help is needed to finish three areas on the Rim Trail above the gorge that volunteers from The Nature Conservancy and Columbus Audubon have gotten a fantastic start on. Areas that the DNAP staff and volunteers have been working on in the gorge along the scenic Little Miami River will also be completed.
This is going to be a great social, educational and work event, with a barbeque grill-out lunch provided afterwards, along with t-shirts for volunteers. The state’s best naturalists, botanists, geologists, ecologists and wetland specialists will be leading organized hikes after 1:30 pm and will be available to answer your questions or simply discuss this natural, geological feature.
You can help in these organized areas: two on the upper Rim Trail, one area around the Nature Center along the Narrows Trail and two areas of the Gorge Trail covering a narrow 3/4 mile distance.
Registration: 8-9:30 AM
Honeysuckle Removal: 9 AM-noon
Lunch: noon-1:30 PM with camaraderie, presentations and Q & A
Organized hikes: 1:30-3 PM
